For all Year 2 Confirmation Teens:

We want you to keep growing in your faith and to NEVER FORGET that the Church is your home.  

SURF, which stands for Serving Under the Righteous Father, is the place where teens come to truly encounter God in a new a dramatic way.  We would like to invite all the Year 2 Confirmation candidates to join our discipleship group NOW and see what it’s all about!



  • Wed, April 17-  Remaining with Jesus in Holy Week
  • Wed, April 24-  Resurrection Party
  • Wed, May 1-  In-N-Out & Bowling!  **RSVPs and Permission Slip required**
  • Wed, May  8-  Dating 101 (with special guest speaker!)
  • Wed, May 15-  Ask Questions, Get Answers with our Guest Panel



  • Optional 5:30 pm Mass in the Church
  • Optional dinner at 6:15 pm in the Youth Room, found in the back right corner of Knight Hall.
  • Meeting starts at 7 pm.  It will finish around 8:30 pm.
  • Teens are welcome to hang around until 9 pm!  We will have dessert.

When: Friday, March 29-Sunday, March 31, 2019

Friday Departure–  We will be departing by bus at 4 pm from St. Edward.  
Sunday Arrival– We will back at St. Edwards in time for the 5:30 Youth Mass.  We ask for the teens to stay for the Mass as the conclusion of the Mass.  

Cost: $150, make checks payable to St. Edward the Confessor Parish.
(It costs over to $250 per person to run it, but you, your faith and GOD is WORTH the financial investment!) If you need financial help, ask the faith formation office.

Year ONE Confirmation Retreat

What is the Confirmation 1 Weekend Retreat?

The Confirmation 1 Retreat is at time for all of our Confirmation 1 teens to spend time growing in their relationship with God, His Church, and one another as begin their final preparations to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.


Where is the Retreat Being Held?

Attention-  This year the Confirmation 1 Retreat is being held at the Lazy W Ranch located off of the Ortega Highway at 23852 Hot Springs Canyon Road, San Juan Capistrano CA 92675. The facility phone number is (949) 728-0141.


Cost is $200

Lodging, transportation, meals and all supplies will be paid by St. Edward the Confessor
Contact the Faith Formation with ANY financial questions or concerns.  



We will be using bus transportation between St. Edward the Confessor and Lazy W Ranch.



Please arrive at St. Edward the Confessor at 3:45 to 4:15 pm for check in.  Check in will be in Knight Hall.  Buses will depart at 4:20 p.m SHARP.**

**- Attention-  THE LOCATION AND FRIDAY DROP OFF OF THE NOVEMBER RETREAT HAS BEEN CHANGED to 6:30 pm at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center.

We will return to St. Edward on Sunday at 12:15 am for a closing Mass and celebration IN KNIGHT HALL.  Parents are welcome to come join us for this Mass!  (Gathering time is 12:10 pm to 12:20.)  The retreat will officially close approximately at 1:30 pm AFTER the celebration of the Holy Mass.  Please do NOT take your teen home BEFORE the Mass for ANY reason.       


What To Bring

Please pack LIGHTLY!  Bus space is very limited!

What to Bring:

(Before packing make sure to check weekend weather conditions for rain/cold!)

  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • Warm clothing (jacket, gloves)
  • Comfortable closed toe shoes
  • Shower shoes
  • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.)
  • Towel
  • Small Bible, journal, Rosary (if you need them for prayer time.)
  • Flashlight.  It gets VERY dark.
  • Reusable water bottle with your name clearly marked


Prescribed Medication

If your child uses prescribed medication and must have adult assistance in administering this medication:  If your child’s medication needs to be administered by an adult, please inform the Faith Formation Admin staff  at LEAST a week prior to the retreat with all necessary details.  Please provide written instructions  along with the medication to the St. Edward’s staff upon arrival on Friday.


Dietary Restrictions

If your child has dietary restrictions, please inform the Faith Formation Admin staff at LEAST a week before the the retreat with all necessary details.


Homecoming Insight

One week after the end of each retreat, teens are invited to Insight Youth Group, following the Sunday 5:30 pm Mass.  It will be a time for teens to reconnect, view a video of the retreat,  share stories and pray.  It is not mandatory, but highly recommended!.

Confirmation Speaker Series

For Year 2 Students, Sponsors & Parents


As you prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation,

we invite you to come to dive in deeply to your faith.

We are asking for attendance at just ONE of these sessions but MORE are definitely encouraged!  Teens should attend the session along with their sponsor, or parent if sponsor is not available. Entire families and other parishioners are welcome to attend.   The sessions will include a presentation from a dynamic Catholic speaker, time for discussion between teen and sponsor, and prayer.


Session 1

  • Date:  Sunday, March 17
  • Time:  7 pm to 8:45 pm
    • Optional Dinner in Knight Hall after the 5:30 pm Mass until 7 pm
  • Presenter:  Fr. Tim Grumbach
    • Fr. Tim is a priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  In his teen years, his desire was to be a professional surfer.  However, God had bigger plans! Now his days are spent at his parish, St. Augustine in Culver City, administering the sacraments and speaking at various conferences.  Fr. Tim still enjoys hitting the waves, riding his bike through Los Angeles and going to Disneyland with friends.
  • Topic:  “From Surfer to Priest:  When God’s Plans are Greater than Our Own”

Session 2

  • Date:  Sunday, April 14
  • Time: 7:15 pm to 9 pm  (This session begins later because this is Palm Sunday and those Masses are slightly longer than the usual hour Sunday Mass.)
  • Presenter:  Paul J. Kim
    • Paul J. Kim is one of the most sought after Catholic youth speakers in America. The way he presents is a rare gift to witness and has impacted people of all ages in nearly all 50 states and several countries over the past decade. He has released two music albums, his videos on YouTube have accumulated over 2 million views, and he presents to tens of thousands of people a year at events throughout the world. In his free time, he enjoys long walks on the beach, surfing, and speaking to strangers in random accents. He resides in Southern California with his lovely wife & three children.

Session 3

  • Date:  Sunday, April 28th
  • Time:  7 pm to 8:45 pm
    • Optional Dinner in Knight Hall after the 5:30 pm Mass until 7 pm
  • Presenter: Richard & Danelle Borgman
    • Richard and Danelle are a beautiful married couple who are full time missionaries who travel the world sharing the incredible message of Jesus’ Mercy.  Before their entry into the Catholic Church, Richard and Danelle worked as Evangelical missionaries in both the United States and abroad. Together, they love to share what God has done in their life and how following Jesus’ brings joy!

  • Location: Church

These series are so powerful and effective, but they do require a financial investment from this ministry.  If you are capable of any kind of small financial gift, that is greatly appreciated, but not at all necessary.  After online registration, you will be directed to a Paypal page where you may make an optional $25 donation.
